The wooden arts industry has experienced a severe skill gap, and in response, in 2014, NCKU established the “Fengyuan NCKU Wood Innovation Center” (shortened to Wood Innovation Center) in Fengyuan. The three towering chimneys serve as a landmark for the Fengyuan community, closely integrating the local wood processing, woodworking machinery, and paint industries. The center once again takes on NCKU’s historical mission, aspiring to preserve the craftsmanship of the wooden arts, root it in industrial technology, and develop advanced technology, revitalizing the wood industry chain built on Fengyuan’s century‑old wooden arts heritage and restoring the glory of Taiwan’s wooden arts industry.
In line with its founding purpose, the center’s main tasks are sixfold: (1) assist creative design with engineering reviews, small‑scale production, and promotional displays; (2) hold the “Wood Arts and Cultural Design Internship Camp” to connect participants’ creative designs with the wooden arts industry chain; (3) establish a wood workshop space to provide a base for micro‑innovation and entrepreneurship; (4) meet the needs of wood‑related industries by cultivating high‑quality vocational talent; (5) integrate industry, government, and academic resources to develop new technologies and strengthen the competitive advantage of the wood industry; (6) improve woodworking machinery performance and develop high‑quality woodworking machines.
