The geological landscape of Yixiantian (Skyline Crevice) is located in Beishikeng, at the innermost end of Taoyuan Street, Taoyuan Village, where it meets Longxian North Road. Follow the wooden walkway signs at the end of Longxian North Road, pass through dense forest, and walk along the grand sandy canyon carved by the stream; in about 20 minutes you will reach the “Yixiantian” scenery. Beishikeng’s riverbed has been dry for a long time and has turned into pristine forest; the water-sculpted terrain forms towering cliff walls that rise straight from the ground, their faces as cleanly cut as if sliced by a knife, with plants tangled in robust roots clinging to the rock, bursting with life. Yixiantian lies between two lofty walls; the path narrows, sometimes requiring you to crouch or turn sideways to pass. Looking up through the canyon at the sky, only a sliver is visible—hence the name. The canyon preserves traces of stream erosion and crustal shifts from tens of thousands of years ago. Trail length: 1.64 km. Walking time: 0.6 hours. Facilities: directional signs, notice boards, warning signs. (The trail is maintained by the Changhua Taoyuan Community Development Association; group entry by reservation only. For reservations, search the Facebook page “Changhua Yixiantian Trail”.)
