The "Ruǎnqiáo Thousand-year-old Trail" was initially built by Han Chinese settlers who came to the area for farming. Due to the swollen river waters of the Shangping Stream that made transportation difficult, they temporarily gathered local materials and used wisteria to construct a makeshift bridge to facilitate travel. Even after ten years, the bridge was still passable, earning it the name "Ruǎnqiáo" (soft bridge) from the locals. In April and May, the trail is adorned with white blossoms of the tung oil tree, and the forest landscape is beautiful. The Ruǎnqiáo community takes good care of fireflies, and during the firefly season each year, one can admire the starry night sky filled with twinkling lights.
