Wugu Xiàlǜ Park boasts 60 hectares of lush green meadow; behind this romantic, refreshing name lies the New Taipei City Government’s “Wugu Trash Mountain Environmental Remediation Program,” which transformed a mountain once crowded with illegal structures and shunned by all into a beautiful hidden gem. It has become a new family destination in Wugu. Inside the park, the New Taipei City Resource-Circulation Education Center was also planned: in addition to handling recyclables, it promotes environmental education. Turning Trash Mountain into Xiàlǜ Park For years, Wugu’s Trash Mountain was a dark spot in the district. Through inter-agency cooperation, the city government guided industrial transformation, tore down illegal buildings, and introduced sustainability and urban aesthetics, flipping the once-chaotic trash mountain into a wildly popular eco-park. With leisure trails and ecological ponds, Wugu Xiàlǜ Park has won numerous awards, including the National Sustainable Development Award, Outstanding Local Team against Environmental Crime Award, and the Green City Award of the Taiwan Healthy and Age-Friendly Cities Award. Playful pastel scenery Designed around the concept of “hide-and-seek,” Wugu Xiàlǜ Park features installation art made from concrete pipes, letting adults and children crawl through and discover the creative murals inside. Climb the painted steps to the park’s highest point for panoramic views of Guanyin Mountain and greater Taipei, and gaze down on the vast, verdant meadow.
