When it comes to Dahu, the first thing that comes to mind is strawberries. The bright red color and sweet taste bring a sweet flavor and make those who taste it overflow with sweet happiness. Strawberries are Dahu's main economic crop. Every year from November to April of the following year is the peak strawberry season. This golden period of strawberries always attracts numerous tourists to experience the fun of picking strawberries. This has led to the creation of many strawberry-related products in Dahu Township, and the Strawberry Culture Museum was born. The first floor of the museum is an exhibition and sales area, selling various strawberry souvenirs and agricultural products. The second and third floors introduce strawberry ecology and the development history of Dahu strawberries. The fourth floor is a restaurant that serves strawberry-based dishes and offers strawberry specialties. The fifth floor is an aerial garden with strawberry-shaped pavilions and flower beds, offering a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Next to it is the Leisure Winery, which has developed and produced strawberry fruit wine, strawberry ice cream, strawberry cake, and more, bringing new culinary experiences to tourists and conquering the hearts of many foodies. A brief story of strawberries: In Taiwan, Dahu can be said to be synonymous with strawberries, known as the "Strawberry Township." However, the earliest place to cultivate strawberries in Taiwan was not Dahu but Yangmingshan. As early as 1934, the Japanese began to experiment with growing strawberries on Yangmingshan, but due to its poor antibacterial properties, it was not grown on a large scale. In 1957, a Dahu resident, Lai Yuntian, visited a relative's home and became interested in this emerging crop. The following year, he and other farmers purchased seedlings and started growing them in Dahu. Since then, Dahu has begun its strawberry history. Dahu's basin terrain and large day-night temperature difference make it very suitable for strawberry growth. Under the efforts of farmers, the crop's popularity gradually increased. In 1979, the "Haru香" variety was introduced from Japan. Because it could be harvested in December, with high yields, large fruit size, and excellent quality, it was deeply loved by farmers. The area for strawberry cultivation gradually expanded, and a few years later, the first open strawberry-picking farm was launched. This made Dahu a famous spot, becoming the best example of combining agriculture, culture, and tourism.
