When you drink tea in a tea house, have you noticed those exquisite and elegant lanterns? Nowadays, there are many such lanterns, all made by Laomiancheng. The functions of lanterns have evolved from rituals, weddings, funerals, and celebrations to daily advertisements and displays during festivals. As soon as the lanterns are hung, a sense of nostalgia naturally arises.
With a history of over 90 years, Laomiancheng on Dihua Street has gone through nearly a century of prosperity and decline. Originally operating in the gold and silver paper industry, it gradually transformed into the current lantern business after going through the Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. Lanterns were originally made of paper, requiring oiling after writing, which was time-consuming and laborious. Later, they were gradually replaced by plastic. Today's paper lanterns are made into semi-finished products in factories, with colors and shapes pre-made, and then calligraphy is added by hand, making the production process simple and fast. Laomiancheng has inherited this art.
As an important attraction on Dihua Street, Laomiancheng not only participates in annual events such as the "Year-End Goods Street" and the textile merchants' activities, but also guards the warm light in everyone's heart.
