Yang Cheng Xiao Guan - The Oldest Cantonese Restaurant in Taipei
"Yang Cheng Xiao Guan", which has been operating in Taipei for nearly 30 years, was originally named "Yang Cheng Xiao Guan". Because the owner did not register the trademark in time, another restaurant named "Yang Cheng Xiao Guan" beat them to it. Therefore, owner Peng Jian Dian removed the "tu" (earth) character from "cheng" (city). He knew that the name was not important, but the reputation among customers was real. The delicious food of Mr. Peng is inherited from his family. His father and uncles once ran "Fenglin Xiao Guan", which was the first generation of Cantonese restaurants in Taiwan. But he set up his own restaurant more than ten years before "Fenglin Xiao Guan" closed, yet his signature dishes were the same as those of Fenglin.
Among these, the "Zhiyan Jiu Zhong Xia" (salt and pepper fried shrimp) is a traditional Cantonese dish that can be found everywhere, but Yang Cheng Xiao Guan's version is uniquely flavorful. This is because they use deep-sea sword shrimp, which has firm texture and each shrimp has shrimp roe. It is fried to a crispiness that allows you to eat the whole shrimp without any problem. As for the "Kyoto Pork Ribs", it mainly uses thin bones with lots of meat. The oil temperature during cooking is controlled just right, and then it is drizzled with Kyoto sauce, which is sweet with a hint of sourness, and sour with a hint of sweetness, so delicious it's hard to stop eating. As for the "Cong You Mao Du" (scallion oil tripe), after eating the tripe, you still need the owner to cook a bowl of white noodles to mix with the scallion oil, so that you can finish it completely and feel satisfied!
