The development of Xinzhuang was driven by the river port transportation of the Tamsui River, which brought convenience to transportation and prosperity to the city. In the early days, Xinzhuang was the most rapidly developing region in northern Taiwan. Until the Japanese colonial period, Xinzhuang continued to prosper, with various entertainment activities becoming increasingly vibrant, and the streets were filled with "puppet theaters", "playhouses", and "theater alleys", symbolizing the thriving performances of various theater troupes and temple fairs. Among these activities, the indispensable prop was the drum, which could energize the atmosphere on the spot. Thus, the drum-making industry in Xinzhuang also developed alongside. The most well-known drum factory is the "Xiang Ren He Zhong Gu Chang" founded by Atuo Shi, whose real name is Wang Gui Zhi. His eldest son, Wang Xi Kun, inherited the family business and took the drum-making skills to a higher level. The drums produced by Xiang Ren He Zhong Gu Chang are widely admired and ordered by various art troupes at home and abroad, including the Ju Tzong-Ching Percussion Ensemble, Han Tang Music Hall, and U-Theatre. Additionally, major temples in Taiwan, such as Fo Guang Shan, Fa Guang Shan, Bao An Gong, and the Confucius Temple, are all loyal users of Xinzhuang drums. The reputation of Xiang Ren He Zhong Gu Chang has spread overseas, with countries like Japan, Malaysia, the United States, India, and Europe all competing to use their products. Hence, Xinzhuang has become synonymous with drum craftsmanship, and drumming has become a source of pride for the people of Xinzhuang.
