Old-house power, vintage architecture, wedding gowns. Rooted in Chiayi, advancing into Taipei. During the Japanese colonial period, Chiayi’s most prosperous commercial district—“Er Tong,” today’s Zhongzheng Road—still boasts many elegant old houses. BLAXK Wedding occupies a 60-year-old townhouse that once housed San-Kuang Electrical; next door, the backpacker hostel was the city’s first department store, Mei-Yuan. Walking Er Tong, it’s hard to miss BLAXK’s façade: exposed conduits, a raw-concrete bar, and terrazzo steps create striking contrast. The ground floor serves as gallery and reception; floors two and three display gowns. This industrial-style studio stands in deliberate opposition to palatial or princess-sweet clichés. Launched in 2014 by like-minded photographers, BLAXK set out to give couples cooler, more personal memories. Years of acclaim in Chiayi have now propelled a Taipei flagship, carrying the brand north of the Zhuoshui River and up another level.
