Wuchang Temple enshrines the Dark Heavenly Emperor. In the 921 Earthquake the entire temple collapsed, but luckily devotees rescued the god’s statue during the aftershocks. To this day, years later, the post-disaster appearance has been preserved, making it the only popular scenic spot in Jiji Township that retains traces of the 921 quake. It is said that the Emperor’s beard has been growing longer day by day; since the news spread, worshippers have flocked in even greater numbers, turning it into the township’s renowned earthquake memorial site.
