新北市瑞芳區汽車路89號
The Jiufen Visitor Center is located to the east of the Jiufen Police Station. Visitors can get off at the bus stop “Jiufen Police Station” and walk a few steps forward to reach it. The center is managed by the Tourism and Travel Department of the New Taipei City Government. The first floor is a service area for travelers, while the second floor and above are offices and not open to the public. The building is modern, clean, and spacious. The first floor features glass walls set between square columns, and the transparent interior and exterior encourage visitors to step inside. The floor is made of washed gravel, evoking the feeling of being in a mining area. Outside the glass walls and inside the service area, wooden benches are available for visitors to rest. Behind the service counter is a large trilingual map that marks the main attractions in the Shuijinjiu (Shuinandong, Jinguashi, Jiufen) area and their relative locations. First-time visitors to the Shuijinjiu area are advised to come to the visitor center first, as it can save a lot of unnecessary wandering, provide an overview of the entire area, and offer valuable information. For other issues—such as not knowing where an attraction is, how to get there, bus schedules, opening hours of various parks, or other problems—the staff will do their best to help quickly. Inside, there are several scale models of old mining carts. Each cart displays various minerals from the Shuijinjiu area and old mining tools, forming a mini-museum. Posters on the walls use three languages to briefly outline the history of the Jiufen area in stages. There is also a stamp station on the table for commemorative seals. The brochures displayed here are printed in various languages and provide easy-to-understand introductions to different attractions, often including beautifully printed maps, making them one of the most commonly taken materials by visitors. A large TV on the ceiling continuously plays introductions to major attractions in the Shuijinjiu area. A newly added large-screen Kiosk guide machine, with its highly interactive system and 3D visual effects, helps visitors quickly understand how to reach the main locations scattered throughout the Shuijinjiu area. Another important service is the on-site tour guides, some of whom are local or nearby residents who volunteer to explain things to visitors. For example, Japanese-speaking volunteers regularly come on weekends.
