World-renowned director Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" features the Ching Ming Sword and over 400 weapons, all crafted by Mr. Guh Chang-hsi, a master swordsmith whose forges have spanned nearly half a century. With 30 years of specialized swordmaking expertise, Mr. Guh began apprenticing in the blacksmith trade at age 13. Relying on exceptional memory and dexterous craftsmanship, he has produced various handmade kitchen knives, domestic ironware, and both Eastern and Western weaponry for domestic and international audiences. Over eighty years, he innovated the "Traditional Layered Folded Patterned Steel" technique, transforming blades from mere tools into high-end collectibles and artistic masterpieces. Consequently, Taiwan's sword artistry has leapfrogged to world-class standards. Driven by a mission to preserve cultural heritage, Mr. Guh dedicated his lifelong savings to establish the "Guh Chang-hsi Arms and Artifacts Museum" in October 2002. The museum is now listed among Kaohsiung's regional cultural centers and has been accredited as a "Taiwan Crafts House" by Taiwan's Research Institute of Traditional Arts. The exhibition space consists of two interconnected modern buildings with full-floor open designs. The museum is divided into the Exhibition Hall and Forging Experience Classroom. On the first floor, there are the "Souvenir Zone," "Special Temporary Exhibition Hall," and the permanent "Taiwan Indigenous Tools Exhibition Area." The second floor houses the "Cold Weapons Art Appreciation Section" organized by historical development, the interactive "Weapon and Armor Touch Experience Zone" for engaging exploration, and a fully handmade "Song Jiang Cultural Exhibition Zone" by Mr. Guh himself. Across from the museum sits the "Forging Experience Classroom" where traditional forging workshops and training sessions occur. The Guh Chang-hsi Arms and Artifacts Museum is currently Taiwan's sole cultural education center presenting historical narratives through swords, functioning as an open platform for skill transmission and traditional continuity.
