In Zhongliao Township, the “Dragon Waterfall” and “Phoenix Waterfall” at Longfeng Waterfall have become a unique local attraction. Dragon Waterfall carries a mighty torrent, grand and forceful, while Phoenix Waterfall flows in a gentle trickle, soft and graceful. Because the two falls sit side by side, they create a landscape of spectacular variety. Above the Dragon Waterfall area, a skywalk has been installed. Visitors can look down from on high and take in a different perspective of the plunging water; walking on the transparent path feels like strolling in mid-air, both thrilling and breathtaking.
Zhongliao is home to the longest skywalk in the country—the “Longfeng Waterfall Skywalk.” Modeled after the Grand Canyon Skywalk in the United States, this U-shaped, transparent structure has no suspension system. Extending a little more than 30 m in total, it projects 13 m out over the top of the waterfall at a height of roughly 40–50 m above the ground. Anchored with ground bolts and piles, it is the longest skywalk in Taiwan, giving visitors a commanding view of the cascading water and the sensation of walking on air. To ensure safety, the skywalk operates by reservation only and limits the number of daily visitors, eliminating long waits. In the future, a trail will be added to connect it with the ancient Chinese cedar grove, allowing tourists to enjoy both attractions in a single visit.
