The Dutch Fort at Fengguiwei in Ma‑gong is located on the small peninsula that protrudes from Fengguiwei, commonly known as “Snake‑Head Mountain.” It was built by the Dutch in the second year of the Tianqi reign (1622) and served as a trading post, making it the earliest western-style fort completed in Taiwan. It occupies a highly strategic position and has significant cultural value, and it is now listed as a national historic site. In the early 17th century, the Dutch entered Ma‑gong Port, landed at Fengguiwei, and between 1622 and 1624 built the Fengguiwei Dutch Fort. Later, in the fourth year of Tianqi (1624), when the Ming army attacked Penghu, the Dutch forces were defeated. The Ming and Dutch sides negotiated terms, and an agreement was reached to retain the walls and the cliff fort, while dismantling the buildings and barracks inside the cliff fort and moving the original building materials to Anping to construct the Dutch Fort of the Dutch (Anping Castle). Fengguiwei Dutch Fort is Taiwan’s oldest Dutch‑style fort; the Dutch first built a fort at Fengguiwei, which is now known as the Fengguiwei Dutch Fort. In 2001, to commemorate this significant historical event, a monument was jointly funded by the Dutch government and Penghu County government. **Suggested visit duration:** 3 hours
