桃園市大溪區浮筧街158之1號
The Waterfirs turn red, and travelers' faces light up with joy! During winter, along Fu-jie Street 185 Lane beside Xiao-li Da Chi, the nearly 3-hectare Badu Waterfir Forest is dyed in gorgeous layered colors—orange-yellow, vivid red, blue skies with white clouds, and gently flowing streams. This enchanting landscape always draws thousands of visitors eager to admire its Impressionist-painting-like scenery. Waterfirs belong to the cypress family (Cupressaceae). Native to the United States, they are called American Waterfirs and can grow up to 50 meters tall. Commonly used for landscaping and construction materials, their needle-like leaves differ from typical coniferous trees by turning red with the winter season and eventually fluttering down like feathers. In Taoyuan, two major Waterfir photography hotspots—Ta-Hsi Waterfir Avenue (originally named Shih-Yuan Road) and Nan-Hsing Waterfirs—began trending after viral exposure on Instagram and Facebook, maintaining constant crowds of enthusiastic visitors. Ta-Hsi Waterfir Avenue hosts around 300 Waterfirs, arranged in double rows that create an elegant and serene beauty. In contrast, Nan-Hsing Waterfirs, located by Qie-Tsing Creek and part of a private nursery, rise in dense groups of nearly 3,000 trees. Unlike the "small yet beautiful" charm of Ta-Hsi, Nan-Hsing’s unique grandeur leaves travelers breathless. Walking along the trail beside Xiao-li Da Chi, the breathtaking Waterfir scenery unfolds before you. Nearby farmlands also captivate: fallow fields host dainty yellow Persian daisies swaying in the wind, while unexpected red amaranth grass, typically found in mountainous regions, adds surprise. The vast, mirror-like surface of Xiao-li Da Chi reflects distant mountains and near forest. Occasionally, cyclists pass by the pool, their silhouettes blending with the fluttering birds of prey. While appreciating the tranquility, you can closely observe Waterfir features like cylindrical breathing roots and light brown cone fruits, transforming the outing into a delightful natural ecology lesson.
