Sheng Nan Temple is the earliest Buddhist monastery established in the Shuangxi area. In the early days, the temple was not easily accessible, and its construction was arduous. The temple has been led by several abbots, including Master Pu Xing, Master Ren Fu, Master Ren Hui, and finally, the fourth abbot, Master Hong Xiu, who completed the construction of the monastery.
Sheng Nan Temple is divided into two parts: the upper temple and the lower temple. The upper temple was founded in 1927, and the lower temple was built in 1940. The temple worships a variety of deities, including Sakyamuni Buddha, the Medicine Buddha, the Sunlight Buddha, the Moonlight Buddha, Bodhisattva, Dharma protectors, Guanyin, and Ksitigarbha.
The temple's buildings include the Glass Temple, the Maitreya Temple, the Guanyin Temple, the Mahavira Hall, and the Ksitigarbha Hall, each with its unique style and characteristics. The surrounding area is covered with lush trees, creating a serene and tranquil environment. The sound of the morning bell and the evening drum creates a sense of being in a world of its own. The "Bell Sound of the Sacred Temple" is one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Shuangxi" and is renowned far and wide.
Visitors can drive up from the mountain, and the temple is especially crowded during festivals and Buddhist holidays.
