"TR Old Mountain Line - Da'an Creek Iron Bridge" is located at the junction of Taichung and Miaoli, stretching from the southern mouth of the Seventh Tunnel in Sanyi, Miaoli County, to Houli District, Taichung City. The total length is 637.39 meters, with 8 trusses and 10 spans of 62.41 meters each (one span between two piers). The Da'an Creek Iron Bridge was constructed in 1903 (Meiji 36) and completed in 1908 (Meiji 41). It was an important bridge during the Japanese colonial period for transporting goods and connecting the north and south.
The Da'an Creek Iron Bridge was rebuilt after the 1935 Central Taiwan Earthquake (Showa 10). In 1963 (民國52年), to strengthen the bridge structure and allow it to carry heavier, faster, and more frequent trains, a girder replacement project was undertaken. Although it is not the original structure, the exterior appears the same as when it was first built, with only slight differences in the trusses and connecting parts.
After the Old Mountain Line was decommissioned in 1998 (民國87年), no more trains ran on the Da'an Creek Iron Bridge. Currently, among the steel bridges with this type of truss structure on the Old Mountain Line, only three remain: the "Da'an Creek Iron Bridge" (637.39 meters), the "Dajia Creek Iron Bridge" (382.2 meters), and the "Gaoping Creek Old Iron Bridge" (1,526 meters).
As the Da'an Creek Iron Bridge is well-preserved, it was included in the "Taiwan World Heritage Potential Old Mountain Line Old Photo Digitization Construction Project" in 2004 (民國93年). In 2010 (民國99年), after reorganization, it was paired with the reopening of the steam train service on the Old Mountain Line. In 2016 (民國105年), the "Taiwan Old Mountain Line Railway Cultural Landscape Survey Research and Preservation and Management Principles Plan" was implemented. Currently, it is closed for management to ensure visitor safety.
