The Zhongdu Aihai Wetland Park, which connects the green ecological corridor of Kaohsiung, is located between Shiquan and Jiuru Roads on the east side of the Aihai River, stretching about 2.5 km and covering more than 7,000 square metres. To create a “sustainable ecological city with a waterfront fragrance that blends with residents’ lives,” the Aihai Wetland Park uses ecological construction methods to reshape slopes, recreating the rich ecological habitat of early wetlands. The park features a timber-built visitor information centre, wooden pavilions, a suspension bridge, a tidal waterfront platform, and light‑facing benches designed around driftwood, all exuding a rustic, pastoral charm. Layered, naturalistic planting also brings back the city’s vibrant forest character. Strolling along the lush, winding riverbank, one can see various waterbirds flying and perching, while mangroves and wetlands revitalize the Aihai River with lively energy. Because the Zhongdu Wetland Park combines natural ecology, educational interpretation, and public recreation while fully showcasing the diversity of the Aihai River shoreline, it earned the “Global Excellence in Construction Award” in 2012 and has earned the nickname “Taohuayuan of the Kaohsiung metropolitan area.”
