The officially named Wharf Number 12, affectionately known as True Love Wharf, originated as a bulk cargo ship wharf, but gradually declined with the emergence of container ships. True Love Wharf stands at the estuary of the Ai River, facing both the urban area of Kaohsiung and the Qijin ferry terminal. Its unique design of a double-sail structure symbolizes the dialogue between the city of Kaohsiung and its harbor and is named "True Love," evoking your imagination of romance. From here, you can admire the modern urban skyline of Kaohsiung with its towering skyscrapers, or gaze toward the port to experience the impressive spectacle of large ships docking. During the day and night, it presents distinct appearances.
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Association for Human Rights organized a worldwide event. People in various cities and locations assembled to hold candles and form illuminated candle patterns interwoven with barbed wires, symbolizing the human rights movement's message that "Instead of facing darkness, light a candle to illuminate the world." On December 10, 2008—Human Rights Day—Taiwan joined globally for the first time at True Love Wharf in Kaohsiung, the city of human rights. An assembly of 3,000 candles arranged by candlelight participants formed the Amnesty International logo "AI," creating a grand display of the human rights emblem. This breathtaking and educational action art installation became a significant landmark landscape.
