南投縣鹿谷鄉投一五一線延溪公路
During the Ming Dynasty, the first settlers of Xiaobantian moved in to clear the wilderness. Because water was scarce, life was extremely hard; it was not until the Japanese era that they petitioned to build a bridge and channel, finally completed in 1924, solving the problems of drinking water and irrigation. From then on, Xiaobantian turned from barren hills into fertile fields, and Changyuan Canal became its lifeline. Therefore, coming to Xiaobantian without walking the Changyuan Canal Ecological Trail is unthinkable: the trail is 3 km long, gently sloped, with beautiful scenery and rich ecology, offering views of bamboo forests. Lin Shuang-wen was calmly executed on the tenth day of the third month in 1788 (the 53rd year of Qianlong’s reign), only thirty-two years old. The Lin Shuang-wen uprising lasted one year and three months, with several hundred thousand participants; it was the largest peasant revolt in Taiwan’s history. The huge stone chessboard on the ancient battlefield symbolizes remembrance of Lin Shuang-wen’s unfinished ambitions and his spirit of sacrifice.
