To capture the 360-degree panoramic view of the larger Taoyuan area, you don't need to challenge yourself with high-altitude hikes or face difficulty achieving it easily! Located less than 5 kilometers from Taoyuan Train Station, Houtu Mountain Environmental Park is a city landmark with a modest elevation of only 251 meters. Despite its humble height, it holds the highest elevation in the urban area, offering an unobstructed, splendid view of breathtaking starry skies and city lights. Hence, it continuously stands as a popular local choice for scenic sightseeing. Renowned as "Star Park," the 2.5-hectare park was initially used as a landfill for Taoyuan City. After being closed in late 1998 and redesigned in August 2002, it successfully bid farewell to its unpleasant reputation, transforming into a green, scenic haven in the suburbs. The park is developed using natural ecological construction methods to minimize environmental damage. Facilities within the park include trails, wooden landscape pavilions, large grass lawns, and mosaic-seated furnishings. Unlike the forested, natural landscape of Houtu Mountain Park above, entering the environmental park allows for a vast, open vista overlooking the areas of Luozhu, Dayuan, Bade, and Zhongli. During the day, families often stroll and play on the park grounds. In the evening, travelers may savor the dazzling cityscape, immersively captivatised. The Environmental Park is only about 1 kilometer from the most complete preserved Japanese Shinto shrine in Taiwan—Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine and Shinto Shrine Cultural Park. Travelers may consider planning a dual-theme tour combining nature and cultural history to explore the beauty of Taoyuan from a unique perspective.
