Lemon Lake itself is not a lake, but rather a small fishing village developed in earlier times. In the local language, the term "lake" actually stems from a phonetic evolution of the Minnan word "ao." Lemon Lake lies to the north of Sea Cucumber Ridge. Though the villagers have completely relocated, the traditional homes constructed with coral reef stones (called "lao gu" in Chinese) still showcase a distinct style. When the sunset bathes the remnants of the old dwellings in an orange glow, it adds a rich dose of nostalgia. Beyond exploring the old settlement, you can join a local guide to discover coastal secrets near Lemon Lake: Bending Bow Cave, Jade Lake, and the Blue Hole. You can feel the refreshing wind within the caves, dive into the Blue Hole to admire its deep underwater world, or plunge into Jade Lake for a swim, enjoying the cool ocean breezes of summer. The seascapes alongside Lemon Lake are the most natural and varied in all of Green Island, exhibiting coral reefs, white coral-sand beaches, black volcanic tuff forming Lemon Lake's shoreline, and volcanic neck landscapes. Nearby are coastal erosion caves with reef-like coral rock formations in front, whose shapes are endlessly peculiar – a perfect spot to observe intertidal life and crabs. The gentle winds inside are excellent for escaping the heat, listening to the ocean waves, and relaxing. Gazing out from within the cave at the blue sky, clouds, and undulating green hills adds to Green Island's unforgettable beauty. Lemon Lake is a significant prehistoric site in Green Island. Scholars paid attention to it during Japanese colonial times, and after archaeological investigations and test digs, researchers discovered a large quantity of prehistoric animal bones, fish bones, shells, pottery fragments, as well as graves and shell middens. These findings suggest that the prehistoric inhabitants of Green Island had close interactions with the groups in East Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula, giving it great significance in archaeological history.
