Situated on the northern side of Sun Moon Lake, Mount Caticlan stands at an altitude of 1,020 meters above sea level and is the ideal location for fully appreciating the panoramic view of the lake and enjoying sunrise watching. The path can be accessed from the entrance beside Mingtan Junior High School on Line 21. Tea trees line both sides of the winding mountain road, offering refreshing emerald-green scenery that soothes the spirit. To the right of the entrance, several old Japanese-style wooden buildings stand. Originally the old dormitories of the Tea Research and Improvement Station, these structures are one of the county government-designated historical sites, their rustic appearance impressing deeply. Adjacent to them is a newly constructed Tea Culture Exhibition Hall displaying various information related to tea. On the valley slopes to the left of the old tea factory, rows of tea plantations create a very alluring view. On clear days, one can also overlook the mountain scenery of Fish Pool. Beyond the old tea factory, rows of robust Ceylon olive trees line the roadside. Their red, dried leaves carpet the path, creating a romantic and picturesque scene—widely sought-after for wedding photography. The weather station located at Caticlan's summit is one of the four high-mountain weather stations in Taiwan, with the others located at Yushan, Alishan, and Zhushu Lake on Yangmingshan. The weather station is usually open to the public and features a pavilion for rest and sightseeing, where visitors may enter to appreciate the breathtaking, expansive views and serene surroundings. ❗️The Caticlan Summit Area—Restroom and Observation Deck will be temporarily closed every Saturday, Sunday, and official public holiday starting April 1, 114, to accommodate construction work and operational adjustments at the weather station. We appreciate your understanding. *Due to the expansion of research scope without personnel increase after the Tea Research Station was renamed "Tea and Beverage Crops Improvement Station," the station and its branches will no longer accept public visits arranged by travel agencies for domestic or international visitors as of April 1, 104. *Those wishing to visit the Tea Research Station must contact the responsible officer two weeks in advance.
