The ancient sweetgum trees stand in Fengxiang Community, Wugong Village, Puli Township, with an estimated age of over four hundred years. The neighborhood has created a small park where locals gather and chat. Sweetgum is a deciduous canopy tree native to Taiwan; the grove once held twenty-two giants, each rising more than three stories high. Several have died in recent years, making the survivors all the more precious and prompting local conservation efforts. The county government has listed them for protection: of the original twenty-two, only thirteen remain and deserve our utmost care.
