Spans the Tanshui River's Tachia Bridge is located below Zhongzheng Park, connecting the Tanshui River left-bank bike path, serving pedestrians and cyclists alike. Its design features cable-line lamps that illuminate at night, enhancing the scenic beauty of the Tanshui River’s riverside nightscape. The bridge adopts a Baroque architectural style resembling the nearby Tachia Old Street, with each end linking Dayuan Road Section 1 of Tachia and Tachia Old Street. It’s an ideal spot for cultural food and leisurely travel, especially during weekends. Originally constructed in 1934 (Republic of China year 23), the bridge was initially built as a bamboo-wooden plank bridge using bamboo cages and stone blocks stacked together, serving as an essential passage for Tachia residents and a bond enriching the relationship between the residents on both sides of the river. During the Japanese colonial period, it was renovated into a dual-span suspension bridge with a total length of 280 meters, closer to its current appearance. After the opening of Wuling Bridge and the Second Outer Ring Highway, the Tachia Bridge gradually lost its role in transportation. Combined with damage from typhoons, it underwent two reconstructions. Under the concept of community-based cultural development, a beautification and reconstruction project was initiated. With planning from the local district office and the highway bureau, reconstruction officially began in 1992, transforming it into a reinforced concrete bridge with a total length of 330 meters and thirteen piers. The renovated Tachia Bridge now resembles the traditional Tachia hanging bridge from the Japanese colonial era, its entrances featuring vintage arched gateways capped with semi-circular ornate carvings, evoking a grand castle-like atmosphere. Passing through the Baroque-style carved arch, visitors can follow pathways made of red bricks and porcelain tiles, walking along the bridge deck while admiring its Baroque-style architecture mirrored in the aesthetics of Tachia Old Street. The gray-white floral designs complement the vintage streetscape, creating a classical elegance. For rest, benches are provided along the bridge. Beyond recreational facilities, the bridge’s view is one of Tachia’s iconic landscapes. From here, the stunning scenes of the Shimen Reservoir and the Dan Shui Guanyin Mountain can be seen in the distance. Tachia Bridge is flanked on both sides by Wuling Bridge and Kanzhin Bridge. Looking toward the ravine, rocks, and distant bridges, while no longer able to witness the famed “Kanzhin Returning Sails” vistas of a century ago, people may still savor the gentle winds under nature’s embrace and reminisce about its past grandeur. Don’t rush to leave at dusk—this is a perfect spot for watching the sunset. At night, when lights illuminate the bridge, its exotic charm shines radiantly, giving the Tachia Bridge the romantic nickname “Lovers’ Bridge,” particularly attracting photography enthusiasts for their creative shots. Street performers frequently stage gyroscope demonstrations or musical performances on weekends; near the bridge’s entrance, a “Love Eternal Gyroscope” offers couples a chance to turn it as instructed to strengthen their bond, symbolizing their enduring love vows.
