The island of Chi Mei has been called “island of widows” in early times due to many accidents occurring while the men on the island were engaged in dangerous and arduous fishing work. It is said that a loving couple lived near Expectant Wife Rock. One day, after her husband went to sea for fishing and did not return, the wife went alone to the shore to await her husband's return. Day by day, she eventually perished from hunger and cold. After villagers buried her by the sea, the stone shore weathered and formed an image of a woman lying on her back, exquisitely lifelike in every detail, including her hair, torso, legs, and even her pregnant belly. The legend of Expectant Wife Rock has since spread. The visitor's guide to Expectant Wife Rock says it is not only a great place for viewing the scenery, but visitors can also cross the stone bridge in front of the rock to reach tide pools. The tide pools are filled with lively little fish and crabs, creating a natural ecological classroom. Visitors must be cautious during low tide periods to avoid any incidents.
