Chinese zongzi makers continuously innovate with creative twists. Alongside traditional bamboo leaves, some use "Pandanus leaves" to wrap zongzi, adding unique texture and fragrance. Located in Xinzhuang, "Mi Gong Fang" stands out for this technique. For years, the owner has specially selected premium, pollution-free "Chishang glutinous rice" from Taitung, renowned for its superior quality, as the primary ingredient. The fillings, combined with partially cooked glutinous rice, are then enveloped in Pandanus leaves and steamed. The result is fluffy, fragrant grains that form a harmonious blend of color, aroma, and flavor—true culinary artistry. Pandanus leaves themselves are a medicinal plant, and they bloom profusely around the Dragon Boat Festival, making them both traditional and flavorful. The pork zongzi features ingredients like pork, egg yolk, mushrooms, shrimp, and peanuts, enhanced by the Pandanus scent, creating irresistible appeal. Another signature "Mi Gong Fang" pork zongzi includes fillings of pork, dried shiitake threads, shrimp, and pickled radish, paired with Chishang rice for an indelibly delicious experience. During the Dragon Boat Festival, "Mi Gong Fang" offers limited quantities of Pandanus-wrapped pork zongzi—be sure to call ahead to reserve yours.
