The residence was built in 1935, originally the residence of the Minister of the Department of Telecommunications, Transportation Bureau, Government-General of Taiwan during the Japanese rule. After the war, it was converted into the residence of the Chief of the Finance Department, Taiwan Provincial Government. In 1972, Mr. Lee Guo-ding moved in and lived there until his death. Lee Guo-ding was a key figure in Taiwan's economic development. He made outstanding contributions to Taiwan's industry, economy, finance, and high-tech industry development from 1953 when he entered the finance and economy field until 1988 when he was transferred to the Presidential Advisory Council. He was known as the promoter of Taiwan's economic miracle and the father of Taiwan's technology, and his achievements were renowned both domestically and internationally. In 2003, the Taipei City Government announced that Lee Guo-ding's former residence was a city-designated historic site and built a new exhibition hall next to it. The entire residence was opened to the public for observation on May 31, 2010, until today.
