Designers, developers, and anyone looking for high-quality emojis can now access a vast library of open-source emojis thanks to OpenMoji. This project, initiated by students and professors of the University of Design Schwäbisch Gmünd, offers a comprehensive collection of emojis that are free to use under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. With over 4,292 emojis across various categories, OpenMoji supports the Unicode Emoji standard and provides a consistent style guide, ensuring that all emojis fit perfectly together.
OpenMoji stands out with its diverse range of features, including colored and outlined emojis, support for Fitzpatrick skin tones, and a vast collection of flags and special interest categories. All emojis are handcrafted, following a single style guide, and are available in various formats, including SVG and PNG.
Users can browse and download individual emojis or access the complete library. The platform also provides a downloadable font file in .otf format, although it's still in the testing phase. OpenMoji's emojis are designed to be versatile, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, from digital communication to design projects.
The OpenMoji project offers several benefits, including a vast and diverse emoji library, consistent design, and the freedom to use the emojis without copyright concerns, thanks to the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
