Established on April 23, 1918, it was originally known as "Medicinal Plant Cultivation Experimental Site", located in Wucheng Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County. It wasn't until 2002 that it was renamed the "Lianhua Chi Research Center" of the Forestry Research Institute, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. Due to the surrounding rich biological diversity, a survey of the flora and fauna within the garden has recorded 177 families, 561 genera, and 879 species of higher plants, of which 589 are native and 290 are introduced. There are 78 species of wild birds. In addition, 131 species of butterflies, 24 species of frogs, 10 species of lizards, 11 species of reptiles, and 20 species of mammals have been recorded. Every year from April to May is also a great time to see fireflies here.
