The Taichung Literature Museum was originally a police dormitory built during the Japanese colonial period. In order to revitalize this historical building, the museum opened to the public on August 26, 2016, with a total of 6 buildings, including a permanent exhibition hall, a special exhibition hall, a lecture hall, a themed restaurant, a children's literature area, and an administrative center. The museum takes "Taichung Literature" as its theme, promoting local culture and bringing literature into daily life. The Taichung Literature Museum is the first public museum in Taichung dedicated to literature and a popular destination for literary enthusiasts. Located at the intersection of Liuchuan East Road and Zili Street, the Taichung Literature Park covers an area of approximately 2,887 square meters and is the first literature-themed park in Taichung. Upon entering the park, visitors can see ancient Japanese-style buildings made of cypress wood, which were built in 1932 during the Japanese colonial period as a police dormitory. The buildings were once slated for demolition but were saved and restored, starting from 2014. The museum was established to promote local literary works and cultivate literary appreciation among citizens. The park features a stunning old banyan tree, which is a must-see attraction. The tree is approximately three stories tall and has a unique root system that forms a natural corridor. The tree is so impressive that many visitors take photos in front of it. A vintage bicycle left behind by a previous visitor is now encased in the tree's roots, adding to the park's charm. The park not only features beautiful landscaping but also incorporates literary elements, such as a tree-shaded wall, a book-clip pavilion, and a seed literature plaza. The park also features a "quadratic water flowing" game, an ancient Chinese game used by scholars to inspire poetry, and a "storytelling old wall" with brick frames of different sizes. A poetry wall featuring the works of Taichung writer Zhao Tianyi is also on display. The museum offers guided tours and is open from 10:00 to 17:00, Tuesday through Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays and national holidays. Visitors can rent public bicycles through the Taichung City iBike system to explore the city's scenic spots, including the nearby government building, martial arts field, and fifth market.
