Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, Korean: Near Ma‑gong Port, you can see a green building featuring a blue Taiwan Telecom totem. This building was originally the Ma‑gō Postal Office. It was built by the Japanese government in 1924 to handle postal services in Penghu. Penghu Post Office was established in 1924 (Taisho 13) and, after the split of postal and telecommunications services in 1942 (Showa 17), it was renamed “Penghu Postal Office.” In August 1946 (ROC 35) it merged with the Communications Bureau to become the Penghu Telecommunication Bureau. By May 1949 (ROC 38) the postal and telecom services became independent again, and the name reverted to Penghu Post Office, which continued to operate in the same location. The building’s architectural feature is that it was built during a time when Western-style architecture was popular, so the Japanese architect employed a “Japanese–Western hybrid” design. The floor plan is an L‑shaped configuration, with the main entrance at the corner of the L. The roof structure uses a “two‑slope roof” design, and the entrance roof has a “cut‑angle roof” form, covered with cement Japanese cultural tiles that resemble the helmet of a Japanese shogun. The three windows above the main entrance form a symmetrical pattern that is typical of Baroque architecture. 【Suggested time to stay】 15 minutes
