Mao-Lin District is located in the mountains of Kaohsiung, where the magnificent mountains and rivers, crafted by the gods and demons, and indigenous culture are deeply intertwined with this beautiful land. In 2009, due to the Molarak typhoon, even the surrounding roads were severely damaged. To ensure the safety of local residents and tourists, a 70‑million‑dollar Dê‑Lê‑Ri‑Ga Bridge was completed in 2013. “Dê‑Lê‑Ri‑Ga” is the pronunciation of “Mao‑Lin” in the Rukai language. The bridge is 880 m long, 10 m wide, and its highest net height reaches 52 m, making it the third tallest prestressed box‑girder bridge in the country. The Dê‑Lê‑Ri‑Ga Bridge specially avoids scour at the pier foundations, with the deepest foundation reaching 38 m to withstand the rapid flow of the Zhuang‑kou Creek. The elevated bridge structure stands above the winding riverbed of Zhuang‑kou Creek, mirroring the layered emerald mountains and blending with Mao‑Lin’s unique terrain. It has not only become a new landmark in Mao‑Lin but also won a gold medal in the finals of the United Nations Environment Programme’s “2013 Global Urban Livability Competition.”
