Situated near Fugang Train Station, the Fugang Old Street's development history is closely tied to the establishment of the train station. In 1908, then known as Bōgōnggáng Station, Fugang Train Station was established, transforming this small agricultural town into a hub of bustling crowds and prosperity. The Zhongzheng Road Old Street area, with its geographical advantage, became the earliest developed district of Bōgōnggáng. Vendors gathered, creating an atmosphere as vibrant as ever. However, with railway relocation, this era of flourishing came to an end, leaving behind only the distinctive Western-style buildings as silent witnesses of the past bustling activity. The Lü Family Western-style Residence on Zhongzheng Road stands as the most representative architectural landmark on the old street. Spanning five storefronts and featuring a two-story structural scale, the building’s grandeur immediately catches the eye. Exquisite Baroque elements — a central dome, a Greek pediment, symmetrical Roman columns, and intricate carvings — reveal the house owner’s immense wealth. Construction on the Lü residence began in 1929, taking two years to complete. For decades, it remained a prominent landmark on the old street. In contrast to the grandeur of the Lü residence, the more modest brick-walled buildings on Xinyi Street feature arch corridors. Strolling through them evokes a tranquil, rustic ambiance, gently transporting you back to the Showa era.
