Imagine the early days of Taiwan, when Fujian and Hokkien people crossed the Taiwan Strait to develop and settle here. They left their homes and families behind, facing a new and unfamiliar world full of challenges. Their only spiritual reliance was their hometown's ancestors and gods. The immigrants brought their hometown's faith and rituals with them, and purchased Buddhist images to materialize their beliefs. This marked the beginning of Taiwan's Buddhist image carving history on Xiyuan Road Section 1, adjacent to Longshan Temple. The short stretch of Xiyuan Road Section 1, from Guangzhou Street to Guilin Street, is now Taiwan's most famous street for Buddhist and Taoist supplies. There are a total of 20 shops selling Buddhist and Taoist goods, including one that has been in operation since 1895, making it a century-old brand. Many of the shops have been family-owned and operated for generations. Longshan Temple played a significant role in the concentration of the Buddhist image carving industry on Xiyuan Road. As people's lives became more prosperous, their faith in gods and spiritual beliefs grew stronger. More temples were built, and it became increasingly common for people to invite gods into their homes for worship. These factors contributed to the agglomeration effect of the Buddhist goods street. In addition to statues of deities, other related products such as altars, incense burners, and lanterns are essential items in Buddhist supply stores, jointly creating the most brilliant page in the history of Xiyuan Street's Buddhist supplies.
