Owner Wu Yizheng recalls that over 30 years ago, when he ventured into the coffee industry, few truly understood this art. Driven by his passion and insight, he persisted and weathered the era when bubble tea became wildly popular. Yet, by leveraging the accumulated strength in coffee and beverage raw materials from those years, he seized the opportunity for innovation, ultimately shaping today’s landscape of coffee beverages, food, and retail. Speaking of such memories, many Chiayi locals have shared countless stories of joy and companionship through cups of coffee over the decades. With three-plus decades of expertise, Wu Yizheng is rightfully regarded as a coffee roasting master of Chiayi. He insists that all displayed coffee beans are freshly roasted within seven days. From raw materials to brewing equipment, he meticulously oversees every detail. This is not just a place to savor coffee; it is a space to share and appreciate the drink. Its vaulted, spacious, and well-lit atmosphere fosters lively conversation and heartfelt connections among visitors. In recent years, Shang Dao Coffee has pioneered the local coffee culture trend, offering diverse courses to help small-scale farmers in Chiayi cultivate their own roasting techniques, branding, and marketing strategies. Through collaborative efforts with like-minded farmers, they strive to expand Chiayi’s coffee cultural industry. Periodically, they host coffee aesthetics workshops, where the art of coffee is compared to the philosophy of tea ceremony.
