Jasmine was introduced to Huatan from northern Taiwan in the 1950s. Thanks to the township’s unique climate and growing conditions, it became the linchpin of Huatan’s economic development, yielding more flowers than anywhere else on the island. In recent years, however, an influx of inexpensive jasmine from overseas has battered the industry. To revive it, the Huatan Farmers’ Association partnered with local growers, abandoning conventional farming in favor of safe, pesticide-free cultivation. After countless trials and setbacks, they created the “Jasmine Huatan” brand; every product is made from local jasmine certified by SGS as completely pesticide-free. Guided by this original vision and unwavering commitment, the brand has earned numerous domestic and international awards. In 2013 the Association transformed an 80-year-old granary into the “Jasmine Huatan Dream Hall,” cordially inviting everyone to come, admire, taste, and savor jasmine in all its glory.
