The Zhangyuan Tribal Village is located in Changbin Township, Taitung County, adjacent to Tapeifeng Village, which is at the northernmost tip of Taitung County. The main residents are the Amis people plus Kamaran peoples who relocated from the Xinsha Tribal Village, Fongbin Township as a consequence of the Jalawan Incident. The area used to be known as ``Kusile'', and was renamed ``Zhangyuan'' in 1937 because of the abundance of wild camphor forests in nearby mountain forests, reflecting its historical prominence in camphor extraction. Two ethnic groups coexisting here have created a unique cultural landscape. The Amis tribe celebrates the harvest festival while the Kamaran tribe in both Zhangyuan and Tapeifeng villages organize their Sea Festival (sepaw tu lazing) lasting two to three days around July each year. Elders perform rituals at the seashore to honor ancestors and the ocean spirits with offerings, praying for abundant harvests. The Zhangyuan Presbyterian Church, with its special ship-shaped architecture, is the most attractive and popular sightseeing spot in the area. Its blue anchor pattern complements its pristine white body, making the church resemble the ``Noah's Ark'' on land, symbolizing the spiritual essence of the church and the traditional life of the tribal community that has always relied on the sea. The Zhangyuan Tribal Village is located less than ten minutes drive away from Changbin's well-known attractions: Badsiang Cave and Old Zhangyuan Bridge Recreation Area. These three destinations can be conveniently arranged for a combined tour to enjoy tranquil Changbin scenery.
