The majestic and picturesque cliffs of "Maiden's Virtue Gorge" lie on the eastern side of Dongyin Island, behind Tianwang Bay. The naturally formed sea-eroded cliff stands nearly a hundred meters high and is almost vertical in its near-90-degree drop, presenting an awe-inspiring and imposing appearance. Legends from the late Qing Dynasty tell of pirates frequently controlling islands in the Minhai region, bringing suffering to civilians. One day, these pirates ravaged Dongyin Island. A local fisherman was killed, and his wife fled to this cliff. When her escape route was blocked and the pirates intended to abduct and assault her, she fiercely resisted and, out of desperation, leapt from the cliff to uphold her virtue. Later generations honored her story, naming the place after her as "Maiden's Virtue Gorge."
Maiden's Virtue Gorge features rugged terrain. There are five carved characters reading "Loyalty and Valor Through the Ages" on the rock wall. A path descends centrally from the center of the cliff wall into the bay known as Maiden's Virtue Gorge. Visitors can follow the railing pathway to the observation deck to admire the dramatic view of the cliff, which rises over a hundred meters above the sea, with jutting rock formations. Each feature evokes a deep sense of admiration for the woman's courage. To the west of Maiden's Virtue Gorge lies a rock named "Maiden's Virtue Stone," named in a tradition of a woman who waited for her husband to return. It remains one of Dongyin's distinctive giant rock landscapes.
