Located in the southern part of Taipei City, the "Sun Yun-suan Technology and Humanities Memorial Hall" is the former residence of Mr. Sun Yun-suan during his tenure as Premier of the Republic of China. Mr. Sun moved in here in 1980 and lived here for 26 years until his passing in 2006. During his term as Premier, many significant decisions and policies were conceived within these walls.
After Mr. Sun's passing, in recognition of his contributions to Taiwan, the Taipei City Government's Department of Cultural Affairs designated this site as a municipally designated historic site in 2006. The site was then entrusted to the Sun Yun-suan Academic Foundation for operation and management, with the goal of maximizing the reuse of this historic site.
Sprawling across 866 pings of land, the estate comprises historic buildings, newly constructed annexes, and beautifully landscaped gardens. The historic site seamlessly blends Eastern and Western architectural styles. In addition to hosting permanent exhibitions showcasing Taiwan's economic development and Mr. Sun's personal life, a special exhibition area is also available for rotating displays.
The newly constructed building, designed with the texture of historic sites in mind, serves as a versatile space for lectures, performances, and cultural events. The surrounding garden boasts a serene fish pond - one of Mr. Sun's favorite spots - a majestic old tree that towers above, and beautiful玉蘭 flowers personally planted by Mrs. Sun.
The establishment of this memorial hall aims to honor Mr. Sun's unwavering dedication to public service and his legacy. Furthermore, it aspires to create a cultural space that is both deeply rooted in tradition and open to modern perspectives - a place where knowledge and beauty converge, allowing visitors to appreciate and engage with the richness of human experience.
