桃園市蘆竹區中山路羊稠街
Follow in the footsteps of past shepherds, treading upon the gullies of the tributaries of Nan'an Stream. The once bustling sight of shepherding with sheep stables (in Hokkien dialect) in the forest has long vanished, but nowadays hikers instead wander along these quiet trails. The Sheep Pen Forest Path is about 3.3 km in total, mostly gently sloped and pleasant for walking. Lush greenery accompanies visitors throughout, and distant views of the high-speed railway tunnels are also visible. A walk here is definitely worth it! Up the lane of Yang Chou alley, beside the Zhang Rongfa Foundation Cultural Relics Museum and the Shang Liu Art Museum, walk upwards around 100 meters to locate the starting point marked by charming rock sheep sculptures. The wide dirt path presents no strain as you walk 100 meters forward to the first challenge of this trail—Heroes' Hill, where 215 steps test your endurance and calories burn rapidly! Those who prefer not to expend too much energy at the outset may branch right and both routes lead onward to Qi Fen Mountain. At the health plaza atop Qi Fen, swings and simple fitness equipment are installed for brief rest. Continue 200 meters along gently sloping paths toward Ba Fen Mountain under the cool mountain breeze. If you plan a "lightweight" hike, the path branching rightward toward Wu Family Ancestral Hall turns back to Zhongshan Road. Proceding toward the peak of Jian Mountain, the point with the towering high-voltage pylon indicates the mountain summit. Along the route toward Jiu Fen Mountain, the right fork leads to the "Bai Nian Long Tou Guan Yin Earth God Temple" nestled beneath a banyan tree, while the left fork connects to the trailhead at Section 560 of Ren Ai Road. Ascend past Jiu Fen Mountain via stone steps to the observation deck, where you're greeted by the sight of the high-speed railway zipping through tunnels, the takeoffs and landings of planes at Taoyuan International Airport, and even farther away, vessels sailing the Taiwan Strait. This convergence of air, land, and sea views opens up a breathtaking panorama! The trail's highest point—Yang Chou Hill at 225 meters in altitude—is the top attraction for viewing the high-speed rail. After descending past the insect ecology area pavilion and the long rest pavilion, you arrive at the trail’s end at Liu Fu Road. The ecological wonders of Yang Chou Gully are abundant; sightings of fritillary butterflies, squirrels, and Lucanidae beetles flit among the dragon trees, pagoda trees, and leguminous trees, revealing a vibrant natural landscape in this urban-adjacent forested haven. The annual “Yang Chou Trail Beetle Season” held every summer is an unmissable ecological highlight. Thousands of beetles emerge on torchwood trees, fiercely battling with their powerful horn weaponry to claim territory and food in a once-in-a-season wildlife spectacle! Join guided tours to the beetle cultivation area for a firsthand look at these insects’ habitats and behaviors, an experience guaranteed to astonish!
