The founder, Akuo, immersed himself in the world of coffee during his studies. Not only was he a founding member of Chiayi University’s Coffee Club, but he also served as its second club president. After graduation, he embarked on a 217-day coffee-selling odyssey before establishing his shop at its current location on Guangcai Street, now named “Xiaokou Pin s” (小口品 s) after building a reputation and capital from his roadside stall. A glass window boldly states, “Seats are few, but the coffee is excellent,”—a concise and impactful message. Akuo speaks little, but his tone is resolute and sincere. He explains that the shop’s philosophy is to “Taste the Life.” The thoughtful hand-drawn decorations and interior arrangements are largely credited to his partner Guang, whose words carry a soothing charm. Together, their complementary personalities and clear roles showcase perfect synergy. Chiayi’s café scene is teeming with hidden talents; despite Akuo’s low-key approach, his coffee skills are widely acclaimed. He has won a loyal following from customers dating back to his street-vending days. Many return daily, almost treating a visit to Xiaokou Pin s as a ritual for closing their day.
