It is said that the Zhenhan community (部落) was originally established upstream of Majiahai Creek, facing the Shitiping (石坑社, now known as Changguang) across the stream. The Japanese referred to the two as Majiahai Community, but in fact they were two separate small communities. The ancestors of the villagers migrated here from Jingpu (靜浦) and Batanwan (八里灣) in Fongbin Township. Approximately a century ago, the Ami people (阿美族) from Fongbin moved south collectively to establish this community. However, the Ami descendants from Fongbin are no longer the majority population; now residents primarily consist of Tafalong (太巴塱) Ami people from Xiulan as well as some Bunun Ami individuals. The Zhenhan community is mainly inhabited by the Ami people, with only two Han Chinese families. The village’s economy has long relied primarily on agriculture and fishing. Traditionally, the community structure was divided based on age hierarchy, with the youth group serving as the leadership. Situated on a plateau to the south of Sanjian Village, the village is bordered to the west by the Eastern Coastal Mountain Range and faces the Pacific Ocean, offering a beautiful setting with mountains and water. The Zhenhan Creek behind the village is a rare and scenic stream of the eastern coast. Tracing upstream from the boundaries of paddy fields and hills, the Zhenhan Gorge reveals pristine and stunning landscapes, with consecutive waterfalls cascading down. The stream water is crystal-clear and cool. In front of the village there is a narrow, elongated shoreline—the rare, intact beach of the eastern coast—locally called Lovers’ Beach. It is a prime location for watching the sunrise and admiring the moonlight. Every fifteenth day of the lunar calendar, when the full moon occurs, visitors in the early morning may witness the sunrise, and in the evening, they can observe a large, round moon rising gradually from the horizon. Moonlight spills gently upon the sea surface as waves rhythmically rock, like soft silk, evoking an irresistible sense of being deeply intoxicated by this breathtaking view.
