A stable and vibrant cultural society is undoubtedly the best condition for enterprises to maintain stability and progress. In light of this, Mr. Wu Dong-Liang, the leader of the Taisin Group, established the “Taisin Bank Cultural and Art Foundation” in May 2001. The foundation was established with the goal of “enhancing cultural living standards and creating a healthy artistic environment.” It is committed to carrying out the charitable spirit of “sowing, irrigating, and sharing,” and to implementing the social responsibility and cultural mission of a private enterprise. The foundation considers itself a supporter and sponsor of professional artistic and cultural activities. Looking forward to the diverse and rapidly developing social trends of the 21st century, and the parallel progress of globalization and localization, the foundation has decided to promote Taiwanese contemporary art and culture as its primary goal. It is dedicated to observing, commenting on, and awarding local art. In addition to helping Taiwanese contemporary art become a shining example of global creative culture, it also hopes to fill people’s lives with more creative vitality and emotional imagination through the promotion of art. The “Taisin Art Award,” which was established in 2002, is the main axis of the foundation's business. It covers visual, performing, and interdisciplinary art activities. Its active nomination and interdisciplinary selection mechanism are both pioneering in Taiwan. In order to balance the breadth, depth, and international visibility of the award, the nomination process involves a dedicated nominating observer, interactive discussions and cross-domain dialogues, and the establishment of the ARTalks website to create a public discussion channel. The foundation then invites influential international art and cultural figures to participate in the final selection. In the process of creating this Taiwanese art crown, in addition to continuously promoting innovative and excellent artistic creations to the public, it also hopes to use dense critical reviews and related promotional and educational activities to respond to the fact that art itself is not based on awards or ultimate results.
