The Jiaying Temple, located in the Xinwen area, is also a center of faith for fishermen to pray for safety. The main deity in the temple is King Wang of Nine Dragons and Three Dukes, who represents the three loyal subjects of the Southern Song Dynasty: Wei Tianzhong, his father Wei Guosuo, and his grandfather Wei Liaoweng. The Jiaying Temple has a history of over 280 years, and it is currently located on Provincial Highway 17, which is a busy road. Initially, it was just a simple grass hut by the sea. As the number of believers increased, the temple was moved to its current location and gradually grew to its current scale. The Jiaying Temple in Budai Xinwen is famous for its unique temple fair, "Chong Shui Lu, Ying Ke Wang", which is a rare event in Taiwan. Believers believe that on the 27th day of the third lunar month every year, 7 mountain巡守 Wang Ye and 13 sea巡守 Wang Ye, a total of 20 "guest kings", will gather on an invisible Wang ship off the coast of Xinwen, Budai Township. The Wang ship will then sail into the Xinwen area with the tide. To show hospitality, the Wang Ye and the Nine Dragons and Three Dukes enshrined in the Jiaying Temple will invite nearby temples, such as the old Sanwang Temple in Nan鯤鯓, the Chao Tian Gong Temple in Beigang, and the Peitian Palace in Puzai, to send their deities to greet the "guest kings" by sea. Dozens of divine palanquins will rush into the water to greet the "guest kings", which is the origin of the folk celebration of "Chong Shui Lu, Ying Ke Wang". This event, which has been passed down for over a century, has become an annual festival in Xinwen and attracts believers from all over Taiwan to participate. It is one of the most iconic events in the religious and cultural landscape of the Chiayi coastal area.
