The Beitou Branch of Xingtianguo Temple, commonly known as the "Zhongyi Temple", is a temple dedicated to Guan Sheng Di Jun, located at 50, Ln. 18, Sec. 4, Central North Rd., Beitou Dist., Taipei City. It is a branch temple of the Xingtianguo Temple on Minquan East Road, which is well-known for its incense and popularity. However, the history of its construction dates back earlier than the main temple in Taipei. The former Taiwan Railway "Zhongyi Station" and the current Taipei Metro "Zhongyi Station" got their names due to their proximity to the temple.
The temple was originally known as the "Guan Di Miao Xingtianguo Temple" or "Jiu Tai Street En Zhu Gong Miao", located near the current Xinying Junior High School in Zhongshan District, Taipei.
The temple was very popular and had a prosperous incense, but due to the temple land being re-designated as school land, the temple had to search for a new location and prepare for relocation.
Eventually, in 1956, a favorable location for building a temple was found at Beitou Shalao Bie (now Zhongyi Mountain). The construction was funded by the founder of Xingtianguo Temple - Master Xuan Kong, and the grand opening was held on May 31, 1965, showcasing a three-hall temple layout.
The Beitou Xingtianguo Temple covers an area of approximately 8 hectares. The temple architecture is magnificent, and in addition to a library, the area is rich in natural beauty with lush greenery, walking paths, gardens, recreational pavilions, parking lots, and public restrooms. The temple serves as the starting point of the Zhongyi Mountain hiking trail planned by the city government.
As visitors climb up the stairs from the foot of the mountain, they are greeted by a vast expanse of green grass and beautifully landscaped gardens. Further up, through the sun and moon gates, they arrive at the spacious front hall of the Beitou branch.
The temple courtyard is very spacious, with red walls and gray stone slabs creating a harmonious atmosphere under the blue sky. Through the temple entrance, one can see the elegant Jade Emperor Hall and the Drum and Bell Tower, showcasing beautiful architectural aesthetics.
After worshiping at the Jade Emperor Hall, the rear hall, and the Three Yuan Hall, visitors can proceed to the rear mountain and experience the serene natural beauty.
Walking through the shaded paths with lush trees, or looking up at the dense bamboo or gazing at the ancient rocks that have endured for centuries, one can't help but feel the tranquility and beauty of the scenery.
Climbing the 800 steps on the right side, one can also enjoy a panoramic view of the Guandu Plain and the Danshui River, providing a broad and comfortable field of vision. This makes it an ideal destination for tourists and a place for spiritual rejuvenation along the North Danshui Line.
