Linking to the Xizhi Neigou Mountain Trail, the Cuihu Trail attracts many visitors for hiking and flower-viewing during the tung blossom season. Most of the trail is a gentle, easy earthen path; you can enter Cuihu from the second trailhead of the Neigou Mountain Trail. Originally an old mining access route, the Cuihu Trail was abandoned after the mine closed and later restored as a hiking path. Along the way hikers can see the ruins of the Beigang No. 2 Pit, once an important coal mine in Xizhi. After its abandonment, vines gradually covered the mine’s remains, and today only broken walls hint at its former glory. Nearby is Cuihu itself, a small lake formed by an old miners’ dam. Though it now looks tiny, it was once a vital water source for the miners.
