桃园市龙潭区桃園市325龍潭區三坑老街45號
Renowned as the "Top Street of Longtan," San Teng (Three Pits) is an authentic Hakka village. In the past, San Teng was one of the most bustling ports on the river, filled with lively activity. However, with the completion of the major waterway projects, the water level of Dahan Creek dropped sharply, and the commercial functions of San Teng gradually declined. San Teng Old Street is located in the Longtan District of Taoyuan City, centered around Yongfu Temple as the main cluster, extending outward to Heibai Xi. The old street narrows on the outside but widens inward, with a rich ancient charm that attracts many tourists. San Teng Old Street preserves traditional Hakka culture and also serves as a filming location for movies such as "Big Tail Catfish Eel" and "Love Makes Us Together," making it worth visiting. The origins of San Teng trace back to the development of Longtan by Lu Xi Fān during the Kangxi period. By the 9th year of Qianlong reign (1744 AD), Han Chinese settlers began migrating there. The area features an alluvial terrace terrain, with three streams converging into Dahan Creek, forming three gullies on the plateau that give the village its name "San Teng" (Three Pits). Walking into San Teng Old Street, visitors can see "Hei Bai Xi," a historic site where women once washed clothes. The narrow, winding streets of San Teng are too constricted for cars and exemplify a Hakka village design—consciously built with winding paths to deter bandits. Though short, the old street preserves traditional arcaded architecture and features specialty shops selling Hakka specialties such as vegetable buns, areca nut cakes, niuwen water (a sweet drink), and tangerine jam. At the end of the street stands Yongfu Temple, the core of the San Teng cluster, established in the 56th year of the Qianlong reign. Now serving as the local community's center of faith, it enshrines Emperor Yao, Emperor Shun, and Emperor Yu. Additionally, the scenic water trail connecting Daxi Yuemei to Longtan San Teng, known as the Waterside Green Corridor, starts at Daxi's Shimen Ditch and ends at San Teng Old Street, allowing visitors to experience reservoir landscapes, rural scenery, and the charms of the historical street in one trip.
