The Baozhong Art and Cultural Center, located on Zhongshan Road in Taitung City, originated as a group of mayoral officer residences during the Japanese colonial era, exuding a strong nostalgic atmosphere. Now serving as a small art and cultural park, the indoor space is utilized for art exhibitions and can host various static and dynamic cultural events, offering citizens a relaxing and recreational area. The term "Baozhong" is derived from the Amis words "Paoson" or "Paposogan," meaning a place with small hills. It is one of the earliest developed areas in Taitung City. Aboriginal peoples had already resided there during the Daoguang era of the Qing dynasty, and Han people had settled here by the end of the Tongzhi era. The current wooden dormitory buildings, established in 1936, although once neglected, have been carefully restored by the government, injecting new life into these historic structures. A short walk to the north of Baozhong Art and Cultural Center leads to the Japanese-style dormitory complex of Bokuto or the Bosang House, all showcasing the grace of Japanese-style wooden architecture.
