White Horse Martial and Civil Lord Temple possesses a resolute charm with vibrant traditional art beauty. Located by the seashore of Keting Au, where the small harbor of Keting Au lies north of Matsu Village, fishermen from Ironboard and Jinsha nearby usually anchor here to escape southern winds during summer. The temple enshrines the two deities, Martial and Civil Lords. Although both, like the commonly revered White Horse Lord, ride white horses, they are distinct deities.
Legend has it that during the Qing Guangxu era, two corpses drifted ashore in Keting Au. Villagers buried them appropriately. Soon after, the Martial and Civil Lords conveyed divine messages through a medium, the dedicated boy medium of the Pan太子. Hence, the temple was built. After its completion, whenever a typhoon was about to strike, a single lantern would manifest in the harbor entrance, guiding coasting fishing vessels to return for shelter. With divine protection, villagers’ sincere devotions have been deeply strengthened.
The temple was constructed using traditional Fuzhou-style architecture with enclosed eaves and fire walls. Its small and refined exterior combines grey bricks with vivid, flowing lines on its gable walls, embodying a quiet yet striking reflection of traditional artistic beauty.
